Over 37 years as a designer I have typically used a backdrop of neutrals and added color and pattern in smaller portions. I think the neutrals allow you to change color accents without a huge expense. You also can choose to change colors with the seasons if you have a neutral setting. Adding pillows or artwork with color is a much easier transition to a fresh new look if you want to update in a few years. I also feel that a lighter backdrop is a calm serene feeling. There are lots of designers that have become known for their patterns and bright colors on main pieces but over 37 years that is not who I am.

I get several questions from clients about the difference between architects and interior designers. When I’m in a discussion with a new client that is building their new home or renovating their existing home, this topic tends to surface to the top – and for good reason. Owners want to make sure their project is built or remodeled as efficiently as possible, and that means assembling the right design/build team from the very beginning. As an interior architectural firm, I greatly value the power of a great team.

The home is our solace. It’s our source of comfort, stability, and sacred place where personalities are grounded and true identity exists. It’s where love surrounds us and where children play. It’s where stories are told and dinner is made. Isolation can be rewarded by embracing these surroundings and embellishing the one, safe place that will keep us healthy, comfortable and sheltered in the most uncertain of times.
